House at Mayfield Park

Mayfield Park is located right in the heart of Austin. It once was a weekend retreat for the Mayfield- Gutsch family. The estate was presented by Mary Mayfield Gutsch to the city of Austin in 1971 and has been enjoyed by Austinite families ever since. It has two acres of beautiful towering palms, water lily ponds and brilliant peacocks roam the grounds. Also there are 21 acres of walking trails and wildlife habitat. I can only imagine the wonderful times a family would have had in this setting. What a generous gift to our city.

Window at Laguna Gloria

Laguna Gloria is a restored 1916 Italian style villa that was once the home of the Texas legend, Clara Driscoll. The building overlooks Lake Austin and is a very imposing structure. It now houses an art museum and an art school. I initially intended to paint the whole building. However, while walking around the lovely grounds, I was taken with this arched cut glass window and decided on a more intimate view of the structure. It is a fun place to paint and I plan to return there often.

Wind Blown Cypress

These Monterey Cypress are located on 17 mile drive near Carmel, California. This is such a beautiful place, every view could envoke a painting. I was interested in the way the wind has twisted the trees and made such interesting shapes. Also, I liked the reflected light on the trunks.

House on the Point

This house is in a great location here in Carmel. It is on a point that looks out over the ocean on the very desirable Scenic Drive. It is actually quite a large house, but I wanted a more intimate view.

Mission Ranch

This small painting was done at Mission Ranch Resort. I painted from the patio behind the restaurant. The view of the laguna is beautiful from this vantage point. Mission Ranch is owned by Clint Eastwood. It is apparent he has a strong love for the area. From the wagons under the towering eucalytus trees and outdoor patio with fireplaces to the picturesque sheep grazing in the pasture, a lot of thought has gone into making the ranch a very warm and inviting place to stay.

Carmel Mission Tower

I did this painting while I was out in Carmel last year also. I am getting excited about going back there to paint. I'm not sure if this painting comes off as looking from the ground up or if it just looks a little lopsided. I hope it gives a feeling of the height of the tower.
I have found several small paintings I did there last year I will post before I leave.
We are driving from Austin to Carmel. I think it will take about 27 hours.

Morning Walk on Carmel Beach

I did this plein air painting last year while I was in Carmel. It is one of my favorite places. I am going to go paint there again next month. I plan to paint there everyday for a month. Sounds like heaven to me. I am awed by the beauty of the coast line and the whole area. It will be interesting to compare the paintings I did last year with the ones this year.
